Chippenham Stud was founded for the express purpose of breeding Riding Ponies. Sarah Redpath attended an early meeting of the then 'Australian Riding Pony Society' and together with her husband Alan, decided to embark on breeding this finer, elegant type of pony that was previously unseen in Australia. We have always been kept small, having no more than 3 foals per year and since 1993 have only bred one or two per season - sometimes none. The Stud's breeding stock are located in Teesdale, Victoria while the ponies being shown are prepared by Alan and Sarah's daughter Sally in Tocumwal, southern NSW.
Chippenham Stud ponies are the product of valued bloodlines from the United Kingdom and classic Thoroughbred heritage. Sarah and Alan Redpath are responsible for the importation of the second Riding Pony into Australia - Treharne Talisman (Bwlch Valentino x Solway Summertime). They also imported the influential mares Perkins of Spring (Bubbly x Polly Perkins) and Walnut Princess (Cygnet of Spring x Nova All-a-Glow).
Riding Ponies carrying the Chippenham prefix have won many awards in-hand and under saddle at both Royal and Horse of the Year Shows (State and National) across 3 decades.
